Ever found yourself in an outhouse with nothing to read but the label on a bottle of bug dope?

This collection brings together a decade and a half of anecdotes, articles, musings, and unsolicited pontifications from a native Mainer.

Inside, you’ll find:

· Rural wisdom from growing up in Maine in the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s.

· Memories from a Maine childhood and the people he knew.

· Short stories to entertain while you spend your time in the outhouse.

Randy Randall was born in Biddeford, Maine, and grew up in Saco and Old Orchard Beach. He has lived in Hampden and Brunswick. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1969, joined the Navy and spent a year on the Mekong River in Vietnam. Back in Maine, he had a career with IBM serving customers in northern Maine. Randy has been the scoutmaster for BSA Troop 633. He’s a registered Maine Guide and, for a while, pulled lobster traps. He published his first book, “Sandbox Camp Tales”, in 2008. He is a member of the New England Outdoor Writers Association and writes a monthly column called “Tidewater Tales” for The Maine Sportsman magazine. He describes himself as a raconteur, that is, someone who tells anecdotes in a skillful and amusing way. He and his wife own Marston’s Marina on the Saco River estuary. You can often find him holding forth on the “Liars Bench” outside the marina office, accompanied by his dog “Scout.” Feel free to stop by the marina for a visit; if he’s there, he would be delighted to meet you and even sign your copy of the “The Maine Backhouse Reader.”
